A recent research study has doctors saying a Mediterranean diet may be a better way of tackling obesity than calorie counting. Writing in the Postgraduate Medical Journal (PMJ), the doctors said a Mediterranean diet quickly reduced the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
In a report by the BBC, the doctors said it may be better than low-fat diets for sustained weight loss. Official NHS advice is to monitor calorie intake to maintain a healthy weight.
Last month NHS leaders stressed the need for urgent action to tackle obesity and the health problems that often go with it.
The PMJ editorial argues a focus on food intake is the best approach, but it warns crash dieting is harmful. And there are many crash diets and other fads about which might bring a temporary weight loss to the ‘dieter’.
But a few sessions with a hypnotherapist from the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) can bring about a lasting weight management by controlling what you eat and when you eat.
Hypnotherapy is highly effective for weight management and, as it works with the client’s subconscious, it can reduce the need for compulsive eating, increase the motivation for exercise and help reduce portion sizes.
Weight loss through hypnosis helps the client focus on making healthy changes to the client’s diet and lifestyle which can be permanent.
Hypnosis gets the client in touch with the reasons why they unconsciously eat and the hypnotherapist will help the client understand why eating can be compulsive and help create new healthy self-management techniques.
The PMJ editorial criticised the weight-loss industry for focusing on calorie restriction rather than ‘good nutrition’.
Hypnotherapy, on the other hand, focuses on the individual’s desires as well as good nutrition and will tailor that to suit the client’s lifestyle and needs.
Signatories to the PMJ feature included the chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, Prof Terence Stephenson, and Dr Mahiben Maruthappu, who has a senior role at NHS England.
They supported healthy eating, like the Mediterranean diet, citing research suggesting it quickly reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes, and may be better than low-fat diets for sustained weight loss.
Again, hypnotherapy helps the client focus on healthy options and a healthier lifestyle.
