A study of internet searches recently has shown that our misery levels change with the seasons, suggesting that the end of April and beginning of May are the most miserable time of the year.
We are at our happiest at the height of the summer, a ‘misery’ index of search terms has shown, the Times reported.
The index, which was first compiled by The Washington Post, is an analysis of the frequency with which people search for five terms – depression, anxiety, pain, stress and fatigue.
But how many people realise that hypnotherapy can help alleviate this? Members of the National Council for Hypnotherapy are trained in dealing with stress, depression, anxiety and other condition s which are prevalent in modern life.
The NCH has more than 1,800 qualified and fully trained therapists on its register who are based throughout the UK and they boast a good results rate in dealing with such problems.
According to the misery index, blips of happiness through the generally miserable winter and spring months were most likely caused by Valentine’s Day and Easter bank holiday weekend.
Then, between the end of April and the beginning of May, came the most miserable time of the year. Studies suggest that suicides peak towards the end of spring, although researchers do not know why.
And, according to the NHS, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that has a seasonal pattern. The episodes of depression tend to occur at the same time each year, usually during the winter.
A hypnotherapist, trained to help people overcome depression, will help the client understand the impact of the past and focus on the present in order to work towards the desired future.
In the main, NCH members would treat mild and moderate depression with hypnotherapy. Some have specialist training and will work with severe, clinical and bi-polar depression if it is within their sphere of competence.
Treatment for seasonal affective disorder can include light therapy (phototherapy), psychotherapy and medications. Time spent in hypnosis with a professional hypnotherapist has been proved to help.
Hypnotherapists look at people as a whole, rather than just treating symptoms. Hypnotherapy for depression works with both the conscious and the subconscious mind in order to help achieve the desired results.
If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, stress or SAD, contact an NCH hypnotherapist near you by using the NCH directory. It will make your life better.
Back to the misery index; it showed that Mondays to Fridays are generally more miserable than Saturdays and Sundays, with misery levels peaking on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
Although misery levels are high now, they are expected to fall over Christmas. Last year, Christmas day was the happiest of the year, closely followed by Boxing Day. December 29 was the most miserable day of the month.
